Deleting a column from the Grade Center

This tutorial will walk you through deleting a column from the grade center in Blackboard.

There are two types of columns in the grade center, those that are linked to a learning object and those that are not. A learning object is anything that is gradable (assignment dropbox, discussion board, test, or quiz.)

Deleting a column not associated with a learning object

Step 1

Go to the grade center. Click on the arrow next to the grade center under the Course Managment Tools.

Step 2

Columns not linked to a learning object can easily be created in the grade center by clicking on Create Column.

Step 3

To delete such a column click on the drop down arrow next to its name in the grade center and select delete.

Deleting a column associated with a learning object

For columns associated with a learning object that learning object must first be deleted before we can remove the column. Learning objects can either be assignments (tests, quizes, papers, assignment dropboxes), or a discussion board. Each are handled in a slightly different manner. Click on each link below for specific instructions.

Step 1 - Deleting a column in grade center linked to an assignment

When an assignment learning object is created a corresponding column is automatically created in the grade center.

Before we can delete the column in the grade center we need to delete the assignment learning object.

In Blackboard click on Submit Assignments or locate the assignment in the Course Content area.

Step 2

Go to the desired assignment and click on the drop down arrow next to the name, then select Delete.

Step 3

We can now go into the Grade Center and delete the column. Click on the arrow next to grade center under Course Managment.

Step 4

Select the desired column in Grade Center and click Delete. The column should now be deleted

You can delete the column and still have the discussion board available for students to complete, but for zero points. Or you can delete both the column and the dicussion board. Follow the links below for instruction.

Deleting a column associated with a learning object that has a rubric attached

For columns associated with a learning object that learning object must first be deleted before we can remove the column. Learning objects can either be assignments (tests, quizes, papers, assignment dropboxes), or a discussion board. When a learning object is created a corresponding column is automatically created in the grade center. Assignments and Discussion Boards are handled in a slightly different manner.. For those that have a rubric attached you will need to disassociate the rubric before you can delete the learning object.
